With most traces of pre-Hispanic culture in Colombia lost to colonisation, artist and painter Siu Vásquez traces the history of women in Colombia through textiles.
This short documentary follows Siu between her home in the countryside and the artisan village of Barichara, where she is developing a new work alongside a traditional women’s collective. The work depicts an image of a 17th-century Indigenous woman, known locally as ‘La Cacica’ (an Indigenous Muisca term for a female leader).
As Siu reflects on her relationship with the Cacica and the power of ancestral memory, the film becomes a meditation on lost histories, creative resistance, and the quiet strength of materials that hold both fragility and permanence.
